Firmware Umbrella

When you try to restore an older firmware on the devices listed below, Apple won’t let you do that. Once you ‘upgrade’ they don’t let you downgrade. The way they stop you is basically by a simple response that iTunes receives when you try to restore the firmware of your choosing. See, the firmware is now signed for the below devices. It is signed with a unique id (ECID) that only your device has. Apple takes the firmware version files and combines them with your ECID and generates a hash that ONLY APPLE can generate. iTunes packages up this valuable information and sends it to your device. Your device checks the information and verifies the signature (making sure it really came from Apple because it CANNOT be forged as the encryption is very high). If the signature matches then the restore process can continue. If the signature does not match, the device raises an error and the restore process stops. Apple stops signing older firmwares once a new one is out.
FirmwareUmbrella sends the same exact request that iTunes sends Apple when requesting the signatures for your device to be restored. It saves SHSH signatures for your device received from the Apple server and let to downgrade OS indefinitely.

TinyTSS

TinyTSS is a small java app that acts as your very own signature service. When iTunes verifies the firmware restore for the devices listed below, it checks if you are allowed to restore to the version you are requesting. With TinyTSS + the shsh blob file(s) you obtained with Umbrella, you will be able to restore to the version of those shsh files forever!

NOTE

• Apple stops signing firmware SHSH once a new firmware is out. Once Apple has stopped signing firmware SHSH requests for a firmware version there is no way to get your SHSH for that particular version.
• TinyUmbrella can now save iOS 4 SHSH regardless of whether your iDevice is jailbroken.
• You can save SHSH blobs for iOS 4 even if you’re on OS 3.1.3 or older.
• It does not matter what firmware version is on the device TinyUmbrella will get the currently signed firmware by default.
• TinyUmbrella saves the file locally AND sends the request to Cydia so Cydia will have the SHSH as well.
• If Cydia’s TSS server is down, your only option will be to use TinyUmbrella for restoring through iTunes.
• iPhone 3G and older devices including iPod Touch (Non-MC) users do not need to save SHSH blobs.

iOS 4.3 GM Support + System Proxy Support on Loader
This update provides iOS 4.3 GM support as well as uses your system proxy settings when launching the TinyUmbrella loader. I’ve also made a few tweaks to streamline the currently saved shshs. I’m still working on the windows recovery kick out fix for 4.2.1 – I should have that finished this week (hopefully). Enjoy

New Multitouch Gestures

iOS 4.3 GM contains a preview of new Multitouch gestures for iPad. You can use four or five fingers to:

Enable Multitouch Gestures on iPhone 4 iOS 4.3 GM

1. First of all, Jailbreak your iPhone 4 running iOS 4.3 GM using the guide of published earlier. (How to: jailbreak iOS 4.3 on iPhone 4)
2. SSH into your iPhone 4. (How to: SSH into iPhone)
3. Go to following directory: System > Library > CoreServices > SpringBoard.app > N90.plist
4. Open N90.plist in TextWrangler or any other plist editor.
5. Now add the following boolean statement: multitasking-gestures and set its value to True.
6. Save and replace the file you just edited.
7. Respring the Springboard.
8. Now Go to Settings .app on your iPhone 4. There you can find multitouch gestures option. Enable it and enjoy!

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.3 GM on iPhone 4 with PwnageTool Custom Bundle

You can Jailbreak iOS 4.3 GM on iPhone 4 with PwnageTool custom bundle, Thanks to FSM. This iOS 4.3 jailbreak is tethered for now and currently supports iPhone 4 only. Follow the instructions below to jailbreak iPhone 4 on iOS 4.3 using PwnageTool 4.2 + Custom Bundle + RamDisk Fixer.

The jailbreak works fine for iOS 4.3 GM on iPhone 4. Still, this is not for everybody. If you are not a developer or not brave enough to tinker with your iPhone 4, just wait for an official release from the iPhone Dev-Team.

Note

• PwnageTool custom bundle will preserve your current iPhone baseband
• Cydia is fully working on iOS 4.3 GM after jailbreak
• It’s a tethered jailbreak

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.3 GM on iPhone 4 with PwnageTool Custom Bundle

Download

• iOS 4.3 GM (Please don’t ask for the link, try Google or get an Apple developers account)
• PwnageTool 4.2
• Custom Bundle for iPhone 4
• RamDisk Fixer

Install Ramdisk Fixer

Download Ramdisk from the link above and install it. It will hook PwnageTool.

Put the Bundle into PwnageTool

1. Download PwnageTool from the link above and extract it to get PwnageTool.app
2. Download the custom bundle for iPhone from the link above and extract it to get iPhone3,1_4.3_8F190.bundle
3. Right click on PwnageTool.app and Show Package Contents.
4. Navigate to Contents>Resources>Firmware Bundles> and copy the iOS 4.3 bundle (iPhone3,1_4.3_8F190.bundle) here.
5. Now close the window.

Create Custom Firmware With Modified PwnageTool

1. Open the PwnageTool.app that you just modified.
2. Hit the OK button.
3. Now select Expert Mode from the top left side of the window.
4. and then select your iDevice. Hit the Next button.

5. Now hit the Browse for IPSW button and select iOS 4.3 GM firmware for your device (downloaded from Step 1).
6. On next screen, Select General and hit the Next arrow button.
**Select Activate the phone option if you’re on unofficial carrier.
**Do NOT select Activate the phone option if you’re on official carrier e.g. AT&T.

7. The Cydia settings menu allows you to create custom packages so you do not have to manually install the necessary them later.
Click to select the Download packages tab. Then click the Refresh button to display all the available packages. Double clicking the package you want will download it and make it available in the Select Packages tab. (Make SURE you install OpenSSH)
8. Checkmark the ones you want then click the blue arrow button.
9. Keep hitting Next button until you’re back to the same screen where you selected General.
10. Now Select the Build Option and Hit Next.

11. PwnageTool will prompt you to select a destination folder to save custom iOS 4.3 GM.
12. PwnageTool will start building your Custom IPSW.
13. During the build process it’ll prompt you for your admin password.

Restore iPhone 4 with Custom iOS 4.3 GM Firmware

1. Once you have the custom firmware, Open iTunes and Put your iPhone 4 into DFU mode. (How to enter DFU Mode)
2. Once the iPhone/iPod Touch is in DFU mode, iTunes will also pop-up.

3. Hold the alt/option key and click on restore button.

4. Browse for the custom firmware you just built with PwnageTool, select it, and wait for your iPhone 4 to be restored

That’s it. Now you have a jailbroken iPhone 4 running on iOS 4.3 GM except your iPhone won’t boot in the Jailbreaking kernel..

Boot iPhone 4 in Tethered Mode

1. Download and install MacPorts
2. Open Terminal and input
   sudo port install libusb
3. Create a folder named Tethereboot on desktop. Download the Thetherboot utility and put it Tethereboot folder.
4. Duplicate your custom firmware (Custom iOS 4.3 GM) and change the extension of duplicated firmware from .ipsw to .zip and unzip it.
5. Copy the following two files from the extracted custom firmware:
   • iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu
   • kernelcache.release.n90
   and put them in the Tetherboot folder where you also put the tethereboot utility.
6. Put your iPhone 4 into DFU mode (How to) and then Open Terminal and type:
   

   cd /User/Desktop/Tetherboot/
   ./tetheredboot iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu kernelcache.release.n90

That’s it. Your iPhone 4 will boot into the jailbreaking kernel.

Unlock iPhone 3GS / 3G iOS 4.2.1 with UltraSn0w 1.2

UltraSn0w 1.2 is out to unlock iPhone 3Gs/3G iOS 4.2.1. This guide is on how to unlock iPhone 3GS or 3G iOS 4.2.1 baseband 006.15.00 with UltraSn0w. iPhone 3GS / 3G unlock instructions can be found below.

IMPORTANT

• Your iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G must already be jailbroken.
• For baseband 05.14 or 05.15 your need to update your baseband to 06.15.00. (How to jailbreak and update baseband 06.15.00).
• This UltraSn0w update can unlock baseband 05.13.04 or older too.

NOTE: This is NOT for iPhone 4 users. iPhone 4 unlock will take some more time.

How to Unlock iPhone 3GS/3G with UltraSn0w

***T-Mobile USA users please disable 3G network first. (Settings >General >Network and turn the “Enable 3G” switch to OFF.)
Assuming that your iPhone 3GS/3G is already jailbroken on iOS 4.2.1/4.1

• Open the Cydia.
• Go to manage Tab at bottom.
• Hit the big Sources button.

• Hit the Edit button on Top-Right
• Then Hit the Add button on Top-Left
• Then Enter the following URL: http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com and hit the Add Source button.

• Once the Source is added to the Cydia, hit the big return to Cydia button at bottom of the screen and then Done button.
• Go to Search tab and search for ultrasn0w and install it.

Installing UltraSn0w will unlock iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G iOS 4.2.1 with baseband 06.15.00. Once the installation is completed, reboot your iPhone.
Voila! You have unlocked iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 3GS/3G baseband 06.15.00 with UltraSn0w and can use SIM from any carrier now.
